Anxiety Epidemic for Preschool-Second Grade
We must consider where our early elementary students were when the pandemic started. Some of them were just born. They began life with few interactions with others and this led to a lack of social skills. They also picked up on the anxiety levels of their caregivers.
We went from 4.4% of the 3-17 population showing signs of anxiety in 2016 to 20% of the 3-17 population showing signs of anxiety in 2022. The statistics for depression are even higher.
We must teach these students; however, we were not prepared in our preservice training to deal with the behaviors that travel with anxiety and depression. This presentation will give you some easy-to-implement steps at the universal and tier two levels.
