About the Author

Dr. Laura Riffel, also known as "The Behavior Doctor" brings 50 years of experience in education, including roles as a teacher, principal, and behavior specialist, with additional expertise as a state behavior specialist. Dr. Riffel has dedicated her career to providing expert consultation to schools and districts struggling with student behavior.


Dr. Riffel ran a statewide program for behavioral interventions and a day clinic for students who were being considered for institutionalization. She has taught Applied Behavior Analysis for Classroom Teachers and other behavior courses at the university level. She began the www.pbis.org website in 1999 and continued to run the website for the Office of Special Education Programs till she retired in 2012.

She has counseled thousands of schools in universal, tier two, and tier three interventions and has authored numerous books.


During the COVID pandemic, Dr. Riffel transitioned her extensive knowledge into an online format to increase access to her training. She continues to develop new courses and provide guidance to school staff and administration on effective behavior strategies.
